The 9 acres of this Ayurvedic Health Spa are lush with greenery, filled with birdsong.
Interspersed among the medicinal plants and shrubs, flowers and fruit trees, guests live in early 18th and 19th century Manas, translocated piece by piece from Kerala. Modern amenities like air conditioning, cable TV, wifi and attached bathrooms blend with the old world beauty of the rooms. Ramp access exists for 2 living spaces in the ‘gram, one of which leads to a special room created for patients with mobility issues.
Areas like Silent Spaces (for creative work) and the library allow people to relax during breaks in the Health Regime. Appropriate films (every Monday evening), lectures and talks on Ayurveda and Yoga occasionally and sometimes a Classical dance or music performance also widen the experience. Ayurvedagram offers a tranquil journey into the world of ayurvedic therapy and meditation. We have spacious accommodations with lodging and dining facilities which are a ideal for comfortable stay in a serene ambiance.
Traditional Kerala houses where Nambiars lived were called Pushpakam and Aluva Pushpakam was originally located on the banks of the river Periyar at Aluva, Central Kerala. This is a typical Nalukettu which belonged to traditional Nambiars with exquisite carvings on its wooden walls & ceilings. The inner Atrium (inner Courtyard) ensured continuous flow of fresh air even during hot humid weather, typical of Kerala. This cottage houses 2 Heritage rooms, with enclosed bathrooms – one of the bathrooms is especially fitted out for guests with mobility problems.
Ambara Mana is a twin cottage similar to Muhamma Mana but without a compound wall. It is dated over 73 years old and comprises of 2 Heritage rooms; each of the rooms has an enclosed bathroom with a private garden. This is a rectangular structure with rooms that open into a common sit out at the entrance.
Aranmula Palace, the traditional Nalukettu Kovilakam (Kerala Palace) is a superb example of medieval Kerala architecture, built by the Aranmula Royal family in the mid 18th century. It was the mother palace of the Aranmula Royal House, which migrated from Madurai to Kerala. The gabled roof, corridors, the Nalukettu style and pre-dominantly wooden character represent the stylistic perfection of medieval Southern Kerala architecture. The building has a closed inner courtyard with beautiful wooden pillars and exquisite carvings. The large foyer has a carved wooden ceiling and radiating rafters in the roof structure.
Today this magnificent building is used as our reception and houses the doctor’s consultation rooms.
Even the restaurant, Suruchi, is crafted on Ayurvedic principles, with 3 sides open to natural beauty, and a high raftered roof placed largely on carved stone pillars.
The mantra is Balance: of Body, Mind and Spirit. So, people from around the world come to Ayurvedagram (earlier the Ayurgram Health Resort) for specific Health Issues like Arthritis, Digestive Issues, Diabetes, Hypertension, Depression, Insomnia or for a simple Rejuvenation, a Panchakarma or De-stressing.
This Ayurvedic and Yoga Village has Ayurvedic Physicians, a Yoga faculty, Therapists who deliver over 45 Kerala Therapies, a Yoga and Meditation Center, a Vegetarian Restaurant and a Treatment Center.
It is today one of the Top Ten Healing Retreats in India.
